“Say it in the street that’s a knock out say it in a tweet that’s a cop out. “ Taylor Swift. People are so brave when they can’t see the person they are abusing.
A few years ago I went to the Melbourne Writers Festival to hear Trent Dalton and Clementine Ford talk about love. This is not the voice of the compassionate person I heard speaking then. Clare, you’re so right about people not seeing others as human online. I just don’t get these attacks. Leave it alone and focus on your own stuff.
Very well written. I follow both women and the exchange made me really sad tbh. The hatred one woman can express toward another feels so raw. I really felt for Abbie. I honestly also think sometimes she doesn’t know what to make of the fame monster she’s built around herself.
This must be so hard to live through, and I want to acknowledge that before I move on to the part I absolutely have to comment on - that being that a new friend said to me at the park the other day "did you play the sims? I used to love having them clean their house and water their plants." When I told her I mostly used the Sims for murder she looked like she thought I was joking. So what I want to say is thank you for confirming I wasn't the only psychopath removing the ladder in the swimming pool, killing those fake humans was such fun. (Did you ever have a sim police turn up because "the neighbours have complained about the noise"? Priceless)
Each day I grow more and more appalled by the way people diss one another online. The word wars are taking over the internet just as much as the physical wars going around the world... bomb after bomb. Needs to stop
It’s hilarious because the open letter to the war hawk Hillary Clinton that Clementine Ford penned in 2015 when she lost the election to Donald trump is still available on the internet. Not to mention all the black and brown women Clementine has stolen talking points from in relation to Gaza over the years. Talk about pot calling the kettle black.
I stopped following Ford after she was involved in the Inspired Unemployed’s prank on a unsuspecting audience in Sydney. They were upset and Ford didn’t even apologise!! Ford knew about the prank, and still went ahead with it. To me those actions were hypocritical of all that I had listened from her previously. Chatfield may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but to me Ford is the FAKE and needs to take a long hard pause before pointing fingers.

I nodded along to every word. Beautifully put, as always.

Thanks so much for sharing, Clare

Great post Clare.

This, my dear, is brilliant 👏
Love your thinking Clare!
