Well, this feels indulgent.
Um hi, I’m Clare Stephens, a writer and podcaster and soon-to-be author. Good writers would put a quirky fact about themselves here, but I’m too tired. Instead, I’ll gift you this photo of me when I was five.
A few notes:
I no longer wear glasses because my brother sat on them about a year after this photo was taken, and when your mum has two sets of twins, she simply doesn’t give a single fuck about your mild astigmatism.
It’s unclear why my jaw was crooked.
The hairdresser who performed that haircut needs to be sentenced to jail time.
Sometimes I wonder why I was bullied, and then… never mind.
Anywho. I like Substack because it rots my brain significantly less than other things I do on the internet, such as stalking people on Instagram and reading weird threads on Reddit.
This is the bit where I’m probably meant to share a bio, which feels wanky.
I’m the creator and former host of award-winning interview podcast But Are You Happy? and funny podcast, Cancelled. My debut novel, The Worst Thing I’ve Ever Done, comes out September 30, and you can pre-order it via Booktopia or Amazon/Kindle. I’m also a producer and writer on Binge series Strife, and am currently working on projects that are a secret for the purposes of seeming mysterious. I write a weekly newsletter called Gossip Drop, where I share recommendations, rogue thoughts, and yeah, a little bit of gossip. I also write about pop culture and TV and books.
